I wake up and spend the next couple of hours frantically organizing my three resupplies. It takes a lot of focus. I need to check out by 11 AM.
Two bags are full of food. The carry from Bend to Cascade Locks is 150 miles which is 6 days.
Cascade Locks to White Pass Kracker Barrel is 150 miles and 6 days.
White Pass Kracker Barrel to Snoqualamie Pass is 100 miles and 4 days.
Emma picks Rafiki and I up and she drives us around to the post office and gear store to get fuel. We go to her apartment so we can meet her beautiful car, George.
He’s gray and long furred and soft as a bunny. What a beautiful cat! Emma makes me a cream cheese and chutney sandwich and a yummy latte.
When she returns to her seat, George is sitting there.
Emma opts for the floor cushion.
We hang out a bit, then head back to the bus station. After a quick bite, we get on the bus.
Lo and behold, guess who it is!?
“Look what the cat dragged in!” I say.
“Look who it is!” Rafiki says.

We catch up for a bit, talking about fires and such things. How getting off early is sad or ego stroking and how we got what we wanted from trail, those sorts of things.
I don’t know I got what I wanted if I can’t walk through Washington, but maybe it’s all God’s plan.
We arrive in Sisters and grab McDonald’s.
Bumper meets us here (he hiked south sisters with his friend earlier).
We go to the gravel road and try to hitch hike. It takes a long time, but when I start waving my arms around wildly, we get picked up!
A young woman from Michigan grabs us and drops us at the trailhead, about 30 minutes from Sisters.
We’re back on trail and camp a mile in!
