I awake to the sunshine and sound of deer kicking around in the woods. Luxy already left since she’s wanting to get to town ASAP. Rafiki and I choose to wake up with the sun. Or, for me, usually about the time I need to go to the restroom.

A fawn with white stripes and spots on his body stares at us. If I make a move, he prances away. A minute later he prances back to stand next to his mom.

A mosquito sings the most annoying song in my ear as I get ready. I swat at it — and myself — and eventually sit on a log with my bag of chocolate cheerio granola.

The sun comes out soon and tries to scorch us. Lunch is at a cold river that goes down a long path and leads to a privy!

I’m trying to drain the water out of my Annie’s Mac n cheese — the best Mac for trail — when the lid slips off and a third of my noodles tumbles to the rock!

Oh no!

Rafiki enjoys some overwatered stuffing (yes, the kind that goes in a turkey.)

Our walk opens up to a clear view of mountains! Jagged rocks are off in the distance. We walk through the path that winds through thick trees.

With some help from our friends, we go back and forth on the phone to find a place to stay tonight. We organized a trail angel to help us — Crouton. Doc will pick us up from the trailhead too!

1500 miles!

It’s getting late, but we arrive at the trailhead and hop in the car with a friendly, short guy. He’s hoping to go on his own travels soon! He’s been inspired by picking up all the thru hikers over the years.

Alas, we arrive at Crouton’s! It’s under renovations, so there are no door knobs and the windows are covered in black tarp. My group is in a large room with an air mattress and a side table.

I eat a pizza Bumper picked up for me, shower, and head to bed!
